Dolce and Gabbana has trusted Carbonale and Mindseye to transform their renowned shop in Milan's Via della Spiga.
The visual language on the floors is similar. A stretched corridor-like central part leads to a chapel-like space with curved walls draped into marble or vinyl wood.
The ambient lighting is kept lower with emphasis on the products only. This creates a more intimate space again with the focus on the products displayed. The same lighting principals as in the two floors above have been applied here, the number of luminaires and their position had to change to adapt to the space and create a different effect.
The lighting emphasizes this feeling, the products displayed, and the materials used to frame the products. The shiny and reflective material create a challenging space to light. Where possible lighting was hidden allowing the materiality of the space to shine and not to distract from the products displayed. This was possible with the introduction of integral lighting. Mock-ups ensured the right position and effect of the light has been achieved. It creates a space visually bright but without the light sources spoiling the shopping experience.
